What To Do If Your Phone Falls Into Water

Accidentally dropping your phone into water can be stressful, but acting quickly can greatly increase the chances of saving it. Follow these steps immediately after water exposure.

1. Remove the Phone from Water Immediately

Take the phone out of the water as quickly as possible and switch it off if it’s still powered on.

2. Do Not Press Any Buttons

Avoid pressing the power button or volume buttons repeatedly, as this may push water deeper into the device.

3. Remove SIM Card and Accessories

Take out the SIM card, memory card, phone case, and any connected accessories to help the device dry.

4. Gently Dry the Exterior

Use a soft microfiber cloth or tissue to wipe away visible water. Do not shake the phone.

5. Never Use a Hair Dryer

Hot air can damage internal components. Also avoid placing the phone in direct sunlight.

6. Don’t Charge the Phone

Connecting a wet phone to a charger can cause a short circuit and permanent damage.

7. Get Professional Help Quickly

Internal corrosion can begin within hours. Bring your phone to a professional repair center as soon as possible for cleaning and inspection.

What About the Rice Trick?

Putting a phone in rice is not a reliable repair method. Rice may absorb some surface moisture, but it usually does not remove water trapped inside the device or stop corrosion.
